Renewal Welcoming Certification

welcoming
Renewing your church’s welcoming certification gives your welcoming team a chance to recruit new welcoming team members, reflect on past welcoming successes, and plan for new ways of practicing radical hospitality.

During the welcoming certification renewal process, your church will:

  • Assess previous years’ accomplishments
  • Develop ministry goals for the coming year
  • Discuss best practices with other certified congregations
  • Browse and contribute to our online encyclopedia of resources that have worked for certified congregations
  • Describe any trainings that have contributed to welcoming and hospitality in your congregation and/or community

After completing these tasks for renewal certification, your church will receive

  • An updated certification seal for the current year to display inside your church
  • Updated “welcoming certified’ designation on your church’s Find-A-Church profile to indicate to visitors and seekers your commitment to welcoming

Renewing Certification Process:

If at any time since 2000 your church has been awarded welcoming certification, you can proceed to the annual renewal process by requesting access to the online forum for welcoming certified congregations. Request access to the online forum for renewing certification by sending an email to training@umcom.org. Please put "Certification Renewal" in the subject line of the message.

To renew your certification each year, one or members of your church’s welcoming ministry team will participate in an online forum for all welcoming congregations and complete a few tasks designed to help you church maintain a dynamic and engaging welcoming ministry.

If you are not certain whether your church has already received initial certification as a welcoming congregation through this program, you can send an email message to training@umcom.org and provide your church's name, mailing address, city, state and zip code. We will research our database and let you know within two business days.
