Board of Directors: The Rev. Larry Hollon
As General Secretary of United Methodist Communications, Larry Hollon is the chief executive officer of the communications agency of The United Methodist Church. This agency is responsible for interpreting the mission and ministry of the church to its global audiences. It operates the church's website, houses the United Methodist News Service, produces public media such as radio and television programming and advertising, publishes three journals in English, Spanish and Korean, and houses a video production facility. Current projects include chairing an inter-agency working group addressing the diseases of poverty and providing access to health care services for everyone. Before his election as General Secretary of United Methodist Communications, Hollon was an award-winning producer whose primary focus was on telling the stories of persons affected by poverty and living under conditions which place them outside the so-called mainstream culture. His work has taken him to more than thirty countries to collaborate on projects ranging from the stories of street children in Brazil to economic self-development in rural villages in Africa. He has worked under conditions ranging from civil war to natural disasters. His clients have included Fortune 500 companies, governmental agencies and nonprofit organizations. In addition to independent production in film and video he has been published in numerous publications and he has worked in commercial radio as a talk show host and in television news. He is a graduate of University of Central Oklahoma and Saint Paul School of Theology. |
