Open source sermons and free media

  • OpenResources – Offers free audio, graphics and videos on a wide array of subjects, including biblical themes, hot topics, personal stories, relationships and youth.
  • Sermon Central – Features more than 120,000 sermons contributed by pastors from all denominations. Check out all the United Methodist contributors and sort by most viewed and top rated. A great element of Sermon Central is that you can search by keyword, verse, author or date.
  • Muddy River Media – Provides illustrative videos, motion backgrounds, countdown timers, stock photographs, illustrations and small-group resources.
  • Lifechurch – Offers sermon-series resources that include message outlines, sermon graphics and videos.

Be aware that these open resources may not necessarily be based on the teachings of The United Methodist Church and Wesleyan beliefs and traditions. While you never want to plagiarize, these themes can provide helpful outlines and guidelines. Make the sermons your own with your flair and style.

PhotoShop, flash and vector graphics

  • Adobe Exchange – Offers free downloads to use with Adobe Photoshop, including brushes, styles, gradients, custom shapes and patterns.
  • Brusheezy – Free brushes.
  • Flasheezy – Free flash elements.
  • BittBox – A blog that regularly highlights free Photoshop brushes, flash components and vector graphics.
  • Vecteezy – Free vector graphics.

Social media for churches

  • The Table Project – Social media is all the rage. Everyone needs public personas on Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare, Pinterest and Google+, to name only a few. However, The Table Project is a missions organization that aims to encourage community within your local church by creating your own private social network – personal, not anonymous; physical, not virtual; sharing, not broadcasting. This informational video can help your church get started.

Church-management articles

  • Church Office Online – Features a host of church-management articles on a wide array of topics including how to lower your church’s energy bill, guidelines to a successful pledge campaign, cloud computing and how to use bulk texting.
  • Nside Admin – Features free administrative documents on human resources, accounting, facilities, information technology and Web.
