Q. Will this app work on my device?
A. There are two versions of the app: Android and Apple.
The Apple app is available on the iTunes store and will work on all Apple devices running iOS 6.0 or above, including these legacy devices: the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad 2, iPad 3, and iPod touch 4th generation.
The Android app is available on the Google Play store and works on all Android devices running Android 2.3.3 or above.
There are no current plans to make the app available for Windows-based phones or tablets.
Q. I see a star on the event page. What does the star mean?
A. When you open an event, tapping the star allows you to add a bookmark. You can view all of your bookmarks from the main menu. You must be logged in for bookmarking to be available. If you're not logged in, you will be prompted to log in or create a free account on UMCom.org.
Q. I downloaded the free trial today but the first entry I see is not until Sunday. Why don't I see all the days of the week?
A. While technically the application is a calendar, the only dates currently showing are those with events in the church or secular year. When you open the calendar the date showing will be the next date with information available, not necessarily today's date. We are considering an update that would have a "true" calendar view with all days and the ability to bookmark and note additional days. If you would like this type of update to the app, please let us know.
Q. Why don't I have the option to see a week or a month at a time?
A. We will be releasing a new version of the app within a few weeks that includes a simple monthly calendar view.
Q. How do I sync this calendar to my MS Outlook or Google Calendar?
A. The current version of the Official Program Calendar app will not sync with MS Outlook/Exchange or Google Calendar. We are currently testing an update that includes integration with both calendar options. If you would like to see other updates to the app, please let us know.
Q. How do I share events from this calendar?
A. Sharing is easy! You can share individual events to your favorite social media platforms, or via text or email by tapping the share icon (small box with an arrow) from an event page. If you're not seeing the share option you would like, check your phone's Settings to ensure you have sharing enabled. This functionality is dependent on the Settings on your device.
Q. I use the program calendar to plan worship services. It would be handy to have hymn suggestions, prayers, and calls to worship added to the program calendar app.
A. We are considering adding weekly worship planning content to the app. Please let us know if this is important to you.
Q. Whoops! I purchased the wrong year, or I purchased something accidentally. What do I do?
A. Unfortunately, United Methodist Communications will not be able to refund your money directly. Please contact either the iTunes store or the Google Play Store to seek a refund.
Q. I'm being prompted to log in to the app. Why do I need to log in?
A. By logging in to the app, you're creating (or accessing) your secure profile with United Methodist Communications. This secure profile allows you to store your important in-app information - bookmark important dates in the future or past and add personal notes to specific dates. This is especially important if you lose your phone or device, upgrade your device or change between operating systems (iOS to Android or vice versa). By utilizing your log in, the app is able to re-sync all your notes across multiple devices.
Q. I purchased an Android version of the app and now I've switched to an Apple device. Do I have to re-purchase the content?
A. Unfortunately, yes. Due to the difference in operating systems we are unable to track purchases and restore them across operating systems. However, you will be able to restore all purchases to your specific account - so if you have an iPad and an iPhone and you share Apple logins between the devices, you will be able to purchase the content once and install it for use on each device.
