Hunger Community Events

Hands4Detroit
When: October 3, 2015
Where: Mt Elliott Neighborhood, Detroit MI
On Sunday, August 16th from 4:00-7:00 pm, volunteers will be sorting, packing and delivering bags of groceries at three local United Methodist Churches for residents in need. Please join us for a time of fun and relaxation. Together, we will build a Stronger Chillicothe!

Orlando Serves

Orlando Serves is a great way for you to volunteer and make a difference in your community. Please come out and be a part of this day of service. Our biggest areas of opportunity are with the Coalition for the Homeless and Straight Street.

DeFeet Hunger
When: September 12, 2015
Where: Kansas City, MO
The DeFeet Hunger 5K begins at 8:00 am on September 12, 2015. We will also be partnering with Harvesters, the area's only food bank to help feed hungry people today and work to end hunger tomorrow. Come out and be a part of this fun-filled day and help us in our efforts to end hunger!

Stronger Chillicothe

Hands 4 Detroit 2014
Where: Detroit, Michigan
When: October 4, 2014
On Saturday, October 4, volunteers in Detroit and Pontiac will gather for a day of service in the community!  Be a part of making a difference during the 4th annual Hands 4 Detroit event.  Bring cans of food, volunteer to help sort donated items, or help complete local repair projects and community clean-ups.  There is something for everyone!

Henderson Impact 2014
Where: Henderson, Kentucky

No child should ever go hungry! On Saturday, September 20th, join friends and neighbors to pack meals for the hungry. Henderson United Methodist Churches are collaborating with Feed My Starving Children, a non-profit organization, to hand-pack meals specifically formulated for malnourished children. These meals are shipped to nearly 70 countries around the world. Come and be a part of making a difference in the livesof thousands of children! 

De-feet Hunger
Where: Independence, Missouri
When: September 13, 2014
The second annual De-Feet Hunger was created as an offshoot of the Missouri Annual Conference's Serve 2014 Project. Join fellow Missourians on September 13, 2014 for this fun race to help stop hunger. After the race, participants will pack lunches for Harvesters. Meals will be distributed throughout 26 counties in Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas. Lunches will also be provided to high school children who cannot afford their own.

Change The World Allen
Where: Allen, Texas

Come be a part of changing our world. Change the World weekend offers children, teens and adults the opportunity to help in their home community with a variety of projects that serve others. Projects range from home improvement to yard work and area beautification, food and care packaging to clothing, book and food drives. Come and join us as we help Change the World! Learn more.

Hands 4 Detroit 2013
Where: Detroit, Michigan

Thank you to all of our volunteers and sponsors for participating in our Hands 4 Detroit event! Along with your willingness and generous contributions, we were able to serve and work alongside residents to fulfil the needs of the neighborhoods throughout the Detroit Metropolitan area. Around 18,569 pounds of assorted food, baby food, and hygiene items were donated to the Gleaners Community Food bank, which will provide 15,474 meals for our hungry neighbors in need.

Lake County CAN!

Thanks to a generous partnership with the 2013 Lake County Fair, we were able to be a part of the solution to hunger in Lake County. Thank you volunteers and sponsors for helping us make a difference in our community!

Hope Epidemic 2012
Where: Sikeston, Missouri

Saturday, May 19, 2012 will be one day when we can give back to the Sikeston region in so many different ways. Hope Epidemic combines service projects for all ages and celebration of our community.

A Kalamazoo Christmas 2011
Where: Kalamazoo, Michigan

Proving you don’t have to be big to do mighty works, a small membership church was able to lead 300 volunteers to serve 1200 guests on one day with a hot meal, warm clothing, blankets, and Christmas toys for their children.
Over 34 corporate sponsors and 4 branches of local law enforcement helped support this successful annual event.

Hands4NY 2011
Where: Upper NY Conference-wide
When: October 15, 2011 and year round
In Upstate New York over 800,000 people -- 14% of all residents -- do not have enough food to meet their needs, and the number of people who are hungry is rising. In a year-long effort to feed 1 million people in 1 year, the Upper NY conference was already over halfway to their goal after their October 15th event.

Mt. Pleasant Community Health Fair 2011
Where: Mt. Pleasant, Texas
When: October 15, 2011
United Methodist Churches and community volunteers joined hands and hearts to offer a free community health fair on Saturday, October 15th. Flu shots, health screenings, information booths, and healthy food samples were offered. All services and lunch were provided at no cost to the community.

Celebrate Community Day
Where: Omaha, Nebraska
When: May 14, 2011
On Saturday, May 14th, volunteers engaged in service in the Metro-Omaha area. This event linked volunteers to local community agencies such as community gardens, food and clothing pantries, and shelters. Along the way participants learned about neighborhoods and agencies that are making a lasting difference in the community.

A Life That Matters
Where: Southwest Oklahoma (8 counties)
When: November 6, 2010
Volunteers across eight Oklahoma counties gathered to impact hunger their communities. Through their efforts to combat hunger they were able to gather 2 tons of food for the Lawton Food Bank.

Impact 10
Where: Sturgis, Kentucky
When: September 25, 2010
Six churches in five rural western Kentucky towns held a community event with 336 volunteers completing over 44 projects in one day. Multi-theme focused, this effort, though small on scale, seemed to have had big results with the churches that participated and the communities that were served.
