Igniting New Congregations
United Methodist Communications partnered with Quest Church in Champaign, Illinois, to provide direct mail and billboard advertising. When this assistance began in June 2004, the church had a 75-person core group. By October 2004, when the church publicly launched, 242 people were in attendance — much more than the 150 that are typically at an average launch of a church led by a Fitzgerald Academy pastor. According to surveys conducted at the launch, about 22% of those in attendance were drawn directly by the marketing campaign.
Since the launch, Igniting Ministry has assisted Quest by providing two direct mail campaigns. One was a month following the launch and another was at the start of 2005. Average attendance increased during each advertising period and is now steady at about 130 people per service.
