If you give, you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full measure, pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, and running over... Luke 6:38

Outright and Current Gifts

Cash
Cash gifts provide for vital, immediate needs and are tax deductible as long as the donor itemizes his or her deductions.

Pledges
Many donors choose to make a multi-year pledge, which enables them to consider a larger investment with payments over a period of months or years. Reminder notices will be sent at regular intervals as requested, and pledges are tax deductible as payments are received.

Matching Gifts
Many corporations provide matching gift programs in recognition of the causes and organizations most dear to an employee or other eligible individual. Your personal gift may be enhanced substantially if your employer has such a program. Please forward your company’s matching gift form to us along with your pledge, gift form, or payment.

Securities and Mutual Fund Shares
Giving appreciated assets is an excellent way to maximize your charitable contribution. Because of capital gains considerations, it is more beneficial to contribute appreciated securities directly to the Foundation for United Methodist Communications rather than to sell them and donate the proceeds of the sale. For depreciated securities, it is usually best to sell the assets outright and then donate the proceeds. Please contact the Foundation office (615) 742-5407 for specific instructions on transferring securities.

Life Insurance
Whole-life insurance policies offer another way of supporting United Methodist Communications’ ministry of hope. As with other appreciated assets, the policy’s ownership should be transferred to the Foundation for United Methodist Communications. Generally, you will receive a tax deduction for the policy’s cash surrender value, which is also the amount that will be credited to the Upper Room Outreach Campaign.

Real Estate or Other Property
Most real estate has appreciated faster than the rate of inflation and offers great potential in charitable gift planning. The Foundation development office will be glad to work with you to determine the appropriateness and tax consequences of a gift of property.

Charitable Lead Trusts
Charitable lead trusts are created to provide income to the Foundation for United Methodist Communications for a period of years, not to exceed 20, or for the life of the donor. Subsequently, the remainder of the trust reverts to the donor or to his or her designee. Generally, cash or securities are used to establish a charitable lead trust. Lead trusts can provide an immediate source of income for communications ministry and provide tax savings on the transfer of appreciated assets to your heirs.
