Central Congo Area & Peninsula-Delaware Annual Conferences in Long-term Partnership

Central Congo Bishop David K. Yemba and Peninsula-Delaware Bishop Marcus Matthews have established a multi-year partnership to focus on a number of areas, including communications ministry. This year the Peninsula-Delaware Annual Conference will provide funds to establish a conference communications center in Kinshasa, DRC.

“The Central Congo Conferences geographical areas are vast, an area almost equal in size to the United States east of the Mississippi River. The Episcopal area includes 4 annual and 2 provisional Conferences. Communications between the Bishop and his Conferences; Districts and Conference Offices; Conference Offices and local Churches; & local Churches and their constituencies is erratic, unreliable, unstable and poor. We need to develop a reliable and effective communications system for the Conference Resource Center to satellites offices of the Annual Conferences,” said Don Hamilton, Chairperson of the Central Congo Partnership Committee for the Peninsula-Delaware Annual Conference.

In addition to supporting communications ministry, the partnership will

  • Establish a Conference Resource Center to empower and enable the Central Congo Conferences pastors and local churches to be more effective in ministering to their people;
  • Connect Youth and Young Adults by developing VIM trips for cultural understanding, fund raising for special youth projects, and work projects which are mutually agreed upon by the youth;
  • Support homeless children. This support will include providing basic needs, resource materials, facility upkeep and staff training and salary support;
  • Support the Mpasa Nutrition and Medical Center. This support includes continuing supplement of the UMCOR Feeding Grant, Medical VIM Teams and staff training and salary support;
  • Increase funding support of the scholarship established at Africa University which will benefit students coming from the Central Congo Area Conferences. After completing the endowed scholarship; an additional annual scholarship will be provided by the Partnership.
