Illinois Great Rivers Annual Conference and Liberia in partnership

The Illinois Great Rivers Conference has given a gift of $8,000 to help establish a community radio station in Monrovia Liberia. The donation was given from funds from the Missions and Communications areas, and was approved by Terry Clark, Director of Connectional Ministries, and leaders of the Conference Ministry Team (CMT).

Bunny Wolfe, Director of Missions & Outreach Ministries, remarked that this gift is a concrete example of the IGRC partnership with the Liberia Annual Conference. “We are pleased to assist in the early stages of the communications initiative for Liberia,” she said. “We recognize that the establishment of a radio station in Monrovia will enhance the communications infrastructure and facilitate the sharing of the Gospel message and needed health and emergency information throughout the country.”

Bishop Sharon Brown Christopher has also been supportive of the work to build partnerships and increase the communications capacity of the church in Africa. In 2006, a team of persons from the Liberia Task Force participated in the Liberian Annual Conference, which was held at Ghanta Hospital.

“We praise the Lord for the gift…to get the United Methodist Radio Station in Liberia off the ground. We are pleased and happy. Our thanks and appreciation to all who played a major role in making this grant possible.”

Liberia Community Radio Partners

“Through our community radio station, more people in Liberia will come to know and receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, especially after fifteen years of a bloody civil war which claimed the lives of many. In other words, our community radio program will be helpful in making disciples for Jesus Christ for the transformation of Liberia… It will help us reach thousands of people who have not heard about the saving power of Jesus Christ.”
